Recently raised the alarm

Chief curator of Oriental collections Irina Koshoridze has confirmed to The Art Newspaper that “the transmission of collections has not yet begun” at Shalva Amiranashvili Museum, but she cautioned that “no temperatures or weather conditions are in place” when objects are moved. Koshoridze further noted that the collection’s 25 most significant and highly-respected artworks were moved to the Simon Janashia Museum of Georgia close to the museum.

The museum’s supporters have recently raised the alarm over the fate of another coveted artefact, the medieval Ancha Icon of the Saviour dating to the sixth or seventh century.
